My StoryAs far back as I can remember, Water has always been my Home. As a little one I could swim before I could walk (to some, because of my visual impairment, but to me it was because Water meant Peace, Solace, Joy, and Adventure)! Water ALWAYS transports me to another world- one FULL of mystery, magic, discovery and wonder! ^_^
As a kid I fell in love with “Splash” and “The Little Mermaid” in theatres, and endlessly reveled in feeling the currents ripple down my legs as I dolphin-kicked merrily beneath the surface. But it wasn’t until visiting Weeki Watchee at 16 did it ever occur to me that I could become a mer in the flesh (more than just in spirit). -And even then, I never tried out to perform, because I was CERTAIN they’d "never, EVER want a plus-size mer," let alone one w/a visual impairment. And for far, FAR too long, that's where my dreams stopped. Aside from researching tails and tail makers, it took many, many years for me to get the confidence to share my fins with the world. But around 2009-2010 I discovered the Body Positivity movement, and suddenly, it was like my heart- and my whoooole world began to blossom. Gradually I gained the confidence to pursue one dream after another: First; bellydance classes, then, it was professional solo performances onstage, and with the support and love of the bellydance community (and many, many dear, incredible & inspiring others who helped uplift and empower me and others like me), finally, the dream of finding my fins called again. -Which is when I found a pod of merfolk (with other fluffy mers too!), right smack dab in a city that had AMAZING bellydancers and performing opportunities all in one place. :D And soon after, I moved from my home near Washington DC to Portland, OR- to pursue my dreams of being the world’s first singing, bellydancing mermaid! :) Now I perform regularly around the Portland, OR area with a few interconnected pods of truly AMAZING merfolk, making children of all ages happy at faires, festivals, nursing homes, and even local fountains and pools! Una the Mermaid and her Traveling Fanta-Sea Cove gave me my first taste of what it would be like to share my fins with the public, but now I'm a freelance mermaid looking to explore the world! As for my mermaid CV, much of what I've done is volunteer, appearing at places such as the Oregon Renaissance Festival of Hillsboro, Faerieworlds, doing dry-land appearnaces with pirates at nursing homes, helping little ones' wishes come true, and so much more! Plus, I love joining forces with other incredible mers like my mersister Mermaid Asherah in her lagoon, Pearls of the Deep, and working with Orchid the Jellyfish/GrandMer Orchid, at events like the Washington Kite Festival, Pagan Pride Day, and most recently, in mermaiding panels at OryCon & NorWesCon, helping others make their own mer-dreams come true. ^_^ I love traveling about meeting new people- which is why I'm a freelance mermaid (or a "mermaid at large!" ;D ♥) No matter where I go, I love to sing, swim n’ shimmy! In all of my pursuits, my goal to inspire people of ALL ages, sizes, backgrounds, genders and dis/abilities to pursue their own, magical and empowering dreams. ^_^ -Be they on land or in the water. :) I firmly believe that no matter WHO you are or where you’re from, every creature on this earth has its own, special magick, that no one can tell your story like you in the way that you choose to tell it, and EVERYbody deserves to feel loved, respected, powerful and free. ^_^ After all, beauty in nature comes in ALL shapes, sizes, n’ colors, and EVERY creation has its own unique talents! So why not celebrate all this beauty n' diversity?? There’s room for ALL of us in this great, big, beautiful cosmic ocean!! ^_^ ♥♥♥ |
What I Do |
As a soprano with a wide range of musical genres to draw from, I can bring new and vintage a cappella & stereo-accompanied pieces to your event- in the water or on dry land! (Either drawing from my own repertoire or requested pieces you may choose in advance.) I offer years of training in bellydance (in both Cabaret and Tribal Fusion styles), 5+ years of mermaiding, and decades of vocal & fine art experience. Plus, I enjoy performing for & working with audiences of ALL ages (from preschoolers to the elderly), have experience with working with folks with varying disabilities (from cognitive to physical & sensory impairments), and can happily combine each of my artistic disciplines & performance genres to best clients' needs. :) Plus, I promote body acceptance, disability awareness, & LGBTQA equality in all that I do!
Do you operate a (humane, ecologically responsible) aquarium or zoo that might benefit from a mermaidy ocean ambassador? Or perhaps a renaissance, pirate, fantasy or aquatic event you organize that's coming up? Maybe a children's birthday, benefit or educational outing where water or environmental conservation is the focus..? Or might you have a Middle Eastern dance or variety show that needs a bellydancer, singer, MC, or other help..? I'm happy to schedule a visit with your group for dry-land and wet performances, in-tail or out! I currently practice Fusion style bellydance, can speak a good amount of Spanish, some French, plus a smattering of other languages (including a touch of ASL), and have a variety of mer-themed skills to offer (like "speaking dolphin," doing backflips + other maneuvers in the water, & blowing bubble rings! Sond like something that ignites your imagination? Drop me a line! I'd love to work with you to make your next event enchanting!! ♥☼♥ |
